ERIKS launches new Lifetime Extension and Through-Life Management Service for Onshore Wind Turbines at All-Energy 2025

April 2025

On Stand D28 at ALL-ENERGY, ERIKS Industrial Services, in partnership with Xi Engineering Consultants and 1StopWind, is to launch a new Lifetime Extension and Through-Life Management Service for onshore wind turbines. These services empower owner-operators to extract the maximum life and value from their wind turbine assets through a joined-up, data-led, and repair-focused approach.

ERIKS launches new Lifetime Extension and Through-Life Management Service for Onshore Wind Turbines at All-Energy 2025

With nearly a third of the UK’s onshore wind fleet approaching the end of its original design life, the industry faces mounting challenges around performance, investment planning, and sustainability. These new services from ERIKS and its specialist partners address these challenges head-on — bringing technical, operational, and digital insights together into one streamlined solution.

“Owner-operators need confidence that their assets are safe, efficient, and generating maximum value,” said Peter Mitchell, Renewables Director at ERIKS. “But the industry often manages turbines in silos — operations, procurement, and data all working separately. That inevitably leads to suboptimal decisions. Our partnership breaks down those barriers. By careful consideration and risk assessment of the historical data, aligned to inspection, repair, analytics, and modelling into a single service, we deliver the longest possible turbine life under optimal conditions — safely, sustainably, and cost-effectively.”

ERIKS leads this comprehensive service with decades of experience in critical rotating equipment, repair, and supply chain management. Their Aberdeen-based Centre of Excellence for Renewables includes a dedicated yaw gearbox repair cell and full-service capabilities for generator inspections, overhauls, and full rewinds — supporting both turbine performance and the local economy.

Working alongside ERIKS are:

- 1StopWind, delivering not only statutory inspections analysis but also in-depth blade diagnosis and repair, as well as specialist bolt torquing and tensioning services — essential for ensuring critical load path integrity and safe lifetime extension.

- Xi Engineering Consultants, applying advanced simulation, structural modelling, and Digital Twin expertise. Xi has been building digital twins for wind turbines — including 210m tip height machines — since 2007, well ahead of industry trends. Their team combines aeroelastic and finite element modelling with in-depth analysis of wind turbine operational data, delivering high-fidelity insights validated against real-world measurements. Using machine learning algorithms trained on SCADA, inspection, and maintenance history data, Xi provides predictive diagnostics and optimised Remaining Useful Life (RUL) projections — enabling truly proactive asset management and long-term planning.

This integrated service eliminates the inefficiencies and blind spots of siloed management. By drawing together condition assessments, hands-on component expertise, and digital insight, the team provides turbine-specific RUL projections — giving operators the tools to plan with confidence, operate efficiently, and extend turbine life safely.

With enhanced visibility into each turbine’s condition, operators can plan smarter, reduce downtime, and invest with certainty. And for those tasked with reporting to shareholders or securing finance, the value is even clearer. “With deep insight comes confidence,” said Dr. Mark-Paul Buckingham, Managing Director at Xi Engineering Consultants. “We give wind farm owners the clarity they need to move from reactive to proactive, and from fragmented thinking to long-term strategy. With better data and better decisions, projects can unlock more years, more performance, and ultimately — more return.”

This partnership is also built around circular economy thinking — focusing on repair rather than replacement wherever possible. That means fewer blades in landfills, reduced emissions, and lower lifecycle costs for owners. The service is turbine-agnostic and adaptable across legacy and newer-generation machines. With Digital Twins validated against real-world data — including tower and bedplate measurements — and linked to the ERIKS Smart Asset Management System (SAM), operators can see not just what needs attention, but when and why.

From drone inspection to gearbox repair to real-time modelling, this is a complete solution for those looking to maximise uptime, enhance sustainability, and plan confidently for the future. “If you’re in this for the life of your site — we’ll be right there with you,” said Peter Mitchell. “We’re here to make that journey longer, smoother, and more rewarding.”

ERIKS, Xi Engineering Consultants, and 1StopWind will be at Stand D28 at All-Energy 2025, held at the SEC in Glasgow on 14th - 15th May 2025.
