An NHS hospital recently faced this challenge as increased theatre usage placed heavy strain on its ageing AHUs. Crane Overhaul by ERIKS - Full Inspection, Repair & Test
In the fast-paced world of ship-to-shore cargo handling, downtime equals lost revenue. At the Dartford River Crossing, two 200-tonne unloading cranes were repeatedly failing, putting shipping contracts at risk.
ERIKS engineers took on the challenge, carrying out a full removal, repair, and reinstallation of hoist motors, swivel motors, and generators. Through rapid fault diagnosis, carbon contamination remediation, and dynamic balancing, ERIKS delivered a fully overhauled crane system in just 14 days, half the allocated schedule.
Measuring-Up To One Of Engineering's Biggest Challenges
Operating since the 1960s, a 900-tonne dockside unloader crane was suffering from spiralling maintenance costs, downtime, and exposure to harsh marine conditions.
ERIKS’ Power Transmission specialists undertook one of their biggest crane redesign challenges, re-engineering 10 long travel drives with modern spherical roller bearings, enclosed braking systems, and lightweight drive assemblies. By fabricating new carriages and implementing advanced gearbox solutions, ERIKS eliminated open gear failures, increased reliability, and delivered £500,000 in cost savings for the steel industry.
